ESTB Infrastructure

ESTB is a unique HEP resource

  • World’s only high-energy primary electron beam for large scale Linear Collider MDI and beam instrumentation studies
  • Exceptionally clean and well-defined secondary electron beams for detector development
  • Huge experimental area, good existing conventional facilities, and historically broad user base
  • Upgradable with Neutron and other hadrons beam lines

There are three experimental areas: 

Experimental Area 0 is mainly used for irradiation experiments where primary beam is dumped into an experimental set-up. User Areas I and II are used for secondary particle beams where the number of desired particles per pulse is typically one or a few with a maximum around 100,000. User Area II is in a large open area whilst the others are within the beam enclosure.
